Puma
Founded by Rudolf Dassler, Puma began life in 1948. Originally named ‘Ruda’, the brand soon renamed itself Puma, after the jumping creature that featured in the brands logo.
The brand began production of football shoes featuring removable studs, these specialised Puma shoes proved to be a huge hit, and the brand soon began to expand their lines. Always interested in developing great style, Puma introduced a range of football shoes featuring a distinctive ‘formstipe’ to the sides of their shoes in 1958. The ‘formstripe’ still features on Puma shoes and products. In the late 60s after introducing vulcanized rubber technology to their production, Puma added specialised suede basketball shoes to its lines. Puma’s basketball shoes were highly successful and went onto be named after New York Knicks star Walt ‘Clyde’ Frazier.
Sponsoring high profile sports stars, such as track athlete Usain Bolt and Premier League football clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, has helped to ensure the continued popularity of Puma shoes and products. To this day, Puma football shoes and running shoes are still some of the leading products in international sportswear.
Puma shoes come available in a huge range of styles and colours. Whether you’re looking for golf shoes or running shoes, rugby shoes or football shoes, whether your favourite colour is blue, yellow, green or purple you’re sure to find Puma shoes cater to your tastes.
As a brand, Puma has always had great style and strong links with the fashion world, and the brand works creatively to merge the sportswear with fashion. In the past, Puma has enjoyed collaborations with several renowned fashion designers including Alexander McQueen and Mihara Yasuhiro, and together with footwear designer Sergio Rossi, Puma created a high-end range of satin sneakers.
It’s this creative innovation that will continue to drive Puma as a company and ensure their future success.
