Flatforms...The New Summer Sandals

‘Flatforms’

No longer on the darling feet of
Baby Spice in bright white or garishly printed with the union jack on Ginger’s
daring tootsies, the ‘flatform’ is back; and it’s never looked sweeter.

Certainly lower in height this time
around, this flat/platform hybrid has gained status once again ever since that Prada SS11 collection took over
every trend report going last year. Along with appearances at Chanel, Michael
Kors and Derek Lam, the ‘flatform’ was sure to make an impact.

Worn by the likes of Rihanna, Alexa
Chung and, more recently, Elle Fanning – who claims to prefer ‘flatforms’ to
heels – the shoe can be worn in two very distinct ways. Keep it cute with a
‘flatform’ sandal à la Chanel: a chunky wedge with a girlie heel cut-out, and
intricate strap detailing in the shape of flowers. Alternatively, give it a bit
of grunge with the Prada brogues or the blogger’s favourite statement; the
creeper.

Despite the height-without-pain
coup, many have called the ‘flatform’ mannish, fugly... even abominable. But
let’s face it, if they’re good enough for Ri-Ri then who are we to complain?
